Privacy Policy

ownCal is built around a simple principle: your calendar belongs to you. This policy explains how information is handled across the app and website.

01

Overview

ownCal is designed to keep your calendar information on your device. This Privacy Policy explains what information may be processed when you use the ownCal application, website, documentation, and related services.

The short version: ownCal does not require an account, does not sell personal information, and does not use your calendar content for advertising.

02

Calendar data

With your permission, the app accesses calendars available through the calendar provider on your device so it can display, create, edit, and delete events at your direction. This may include event titles, dates, times, locations, notes, attendees, calendar names, and related metadata.

ownCal processes this information locally. We do not operate a cloud calendar-sync service and do not receive or store your calendar content on our servers. Your operating system or chosen calendar provider may separately sync that information under its own privacy policy.

03

Settings and device data

App preferences such as appearance, week layout, time format, and menu-bar settings are stored locally on your device. The app may also use system-provided information needed to operate, such as locale, time zone, operating-system version, and permission status.

We do not use this information to build advertising profiles or track you across other companies’ apps or websites.

04

Website and technical data

When you visit our website, our hosting and security providers may process standard technical information such as your IP address, browser and device type, requested pages, timestamps, and error or security logs. This is used to deliver the site, prevent abuse, diagnose problems, and maintain reliability.

The site may store your language choice in your browser. We do not use advertising cookies or cross-site tracking technologies.

05

Diagnostics and communications

If you choose to share a crash report, diagnostic report, support request, or other message, we process the information you provide to investigate the issue and respond. Please avoid including sensitive calendar details unless necessary.

Apple or another distribution platform may provide us with limited, aggregated, or diagnostic information under your device and platform settings. Their practices are governed by their own privacy policies.

06

How information is shared

We do not sell or rent personal information.

  • With providers that host, secure, or support our website and process information on our behalf.
  • When you direct the Service to interact with a calendar provider or another third-party service.
  • When required by law or reasonably necessary to protect rights, safety, and the integrity of the Service.
  • In connection with a business transaction, subject to appropriate confidentiality protections.
07

Retention and security

Calendar content and app preferences remain under your control on your device and within your selected providers. You can remove calendar access in system settings and uninstall the app to remove its local data, subject to normal operating-system backup behavior.

Technical logs and support communications are retained only as reasonably necessary for the purposes described above, legal obligations, and dispute resolution. We use reasonable safeguards, but no storage or transmission method is completely secure.

08

Your choices and rights

  • Grant or revoke calendar, notification, and other permissions in system settings.
  • Manage or delete events through your calendar provider.
  • Clear locally stored website data through your browser.
  • Request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information we hold, where applicable.

Depending on where you live, you may have additional privacy rights and the right to contact your local data-protection authority. We may need to verify your request before acting on it.

09

Children’s privacy

The Service is not directed to children under the minimum age required to consent to data processing in their jurisdiction. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children through the Service.

10

Changes and contact

We may update this policy as the Service or applicable requirements change. We will publish the revised policy here and update the “Last updated” date.

For privacy questions or requests, contact us through the official support channels listed on the ownCal website or documentation.
